Posture & Alignment
Proper alignment is the most essential component of all things dance. Every technique you ever learn, whether it is a Rumba walk or a Samba whisk, will be layered onto proper alignment. As a matter of fact, trying additional techniques without alignment will only result in bad habits, poor balance, excessive tension, and discomfort in the joints. If you watch only one video about dance, let it be this one!

Footwork Essentials
While we can talk about footwork for hours, this video covers an essential component of footwork for ballroom latin dancers specifically. In ballet, the focus is on the pointed foot and the stretching of the ankle. In ballroom latin dance, the ball of the foot is arguably the most important part, because it allows us to feel the connection to the floor and to “roll” our weight properly through the foot.

Rumba Walk Technique: "The Holy Grail" of latin ballroom dancing
Proper Rumba Walk contains all the necessary fundamentals and techniques of a latin ballroom dancer’s training. When you can do a quality Rumba Walk, you can transfer that same quality into any choreography, because fundamentals are all the same: alignment and spine position, footwork, knee work, standing leg and working leg techniques, weight transfer tenets, connection of upper with lower body, hip work, core work, shoulder blades work, oppositions, and dance planes.

Rumba Legs Drill
A short but very effective drill for Rumba leg technique. All the Rumba essentials in one drill: Rumba Walks, Swivels, Forward Walk Turning, Backward Walk-Replace, Spiral. As stated in the video, the key is to practice it over and over and over… and over again :) For this drill, you can use a support like a portable ballet barre, the back of a tall chair, or even a kitchen counter will do. For an extra challenge, when you feel more confident, practice this drill with no support.
